FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. What Is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is that branch of the healing arts concerned with problems that involve the joints, muscles, and nerves. Chiropractic is the science of locating misalignments, primarily of the spinal column, that impair the functioning of the nervous system, the art of reducing their impact on the nervous system, and the philosophy of all things natural. If you have specific questions regarding chiropractic health care, please email Dr. Millar, and he'd be happy to answer them.

2. How Does Chiropractic Work?

Chiropractors locate and correct spinal misalignments which cause interference in the nervous system and can be the cause of many health problems. If you have specific questions regarding how chiropractic works, please email Dr. Millar, and he'd be happy to answer them.

3. What Will Chiropractic Care Cost?

Chiropractic care is partially covered by OHIP. Some Employee Health Care Benefit Plans cover part of the non-OHIP portion of the fee. For injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident, your auto insurance company will cover any costs not covered by OHIP or your Employee Health Benefits. If X-rays are necessary, they are taken at a nearby hospital, and are totally covered by OHIP. If you have specific questions regarding coverage, please email Dr. Millar, and he'd be happy to answer them.

4. Do Chiropractic Treatments Hurt?

Dr. Millar will make every effort to ensure that your treatments are as painless as possible. A thorough case history and examination help to reveal the cause and location of your pain. In the first few visits, soft laser and ultrasound are used to reduce the swelling deep in the joints. This helps to ensure that when Dr. Millar "adjusts" your joints back into proper alignment, these treatments will be as painless as possible. If you have specific questions regarding your case, please email Dr. Millar, and he'd be happy to answer them.

5. How Long Does It Take?

An average case at Dr. Millar's office takes between 6 and 12 treatments over a period of 4 to 6 weeks to resolve and stabilize. Severe and/or longstanding problems may take longer. Once their problem has stabilized, many patients choose to return for a periodic check-up to prevent old conditions from recurring, and to detect and correct any new conditions which may arise. If you have specific questions regarding your case, please email Dr. Millar, and he'd be happy to answer them.

6. What Will The Chiropractor Do On The Initial Visit?

On the initial visit, Dr. Millar will first do a case history, in which he will ask you questions about your health background, as well as the onset of your condition, and other details affecting your current health. Next, he will do a thorough orthopedic, neurological and chiropractic examination of your joints, muscles, and nerves. He may also order X-rays, if necessary. Dr. Millar will then explain the findings of his examination to you, and recommend a plan of chiropractic treatments for you. His initial treatment will be very brief, usually involving ultrasound or laser therapy, as the bulk of the time in the initial visit is taken up with the case history and examination. In the initial visit you will spend about 10 minutes with the chiropractic assistant for paper work, and about 20 to 40 minutes with Dr. Millar. If you have specific questions regarding the initial visit, please email Dr. Millar, and he'd be happy to answer them.

7. What Will The Chiropractor Do On Each Subsequent Treatment Visit?

On each treatment visit, Dr. Millar will ask you if you have noticed any improvement since the last visit, and will re-check any orthopedic tests which were positive at the last visit. He will then perform chiropractic manipulative therapy, followed by therapeutic modalities such as electrical muscle stimulation, laser or ultrasound. He will then do some muscle stretching to complete the treatment session. Dr. Millar spends approximately 10 minutes with each patient. If you have specific questions regarding the treatment visit, please email Dr. Millar, and he'd be happy to answer them.
